The Dry Ice Story

Back in the seventies I worked at this grocery store, and for a time I worked in the frozen food department.

Back then when the frozen foods were delivered they were packed in dry ice.

I used to go to a lot of concerts and ballgames back then and of course we had to take a cooler full of beverages for the ride there and back.

Well I had the brilliant idea of  just taking a couple of pieces of this dry ice with us to keep our liquids cold.

Who wants to spend 50 cents (or whatever it cost back then) for a bag of ice when we had access to something that would keep our goodies quite cold?

It also seemed at the time that it would last longer than a regular bag of ice.

The plan worked fine on the trip up as long as we didn't touch any of the "dry" stuff
(that "stuff" can really stick to you).

The trip back didn't work out so well.

After the concert (or ballgame, whatever) was over, we returned to our vehicle only to find our liquid refreshments frozen solid.

It was too late in the evening to replenish them, everything was closed.

We were flabbergasted, somewhat amused and more than a little disgusted.

I learned a lesson that day.

Peace and love,
Thee Rob
